Iran’s ‘Mahakan’ to go to Zanzibar Int’l Film Festival

Iranian short film ‘Mahakan’ is to vie at the 25th Zanzibar Int'l Film Festival (ZIFF) in Tanzania.

Iranian short film ‘Mahakan’ has been shortlisted in the 2022 official selection of the 25th Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) in Tanzania. 

Co-directed and co-written by Hessam Hosseini and Abbas Hosseinzadeh, ‘Mahakan’ is the story of a family who forces their seven-year-old daughter to undertake the responsibility of the murder his father committed, saving her father's life from the death sentence.

“To save the father, a family forces their little girl to admit murder,” reads as a brief synopsis to the film.

Some of the new names appeared as the cast team of the flick include Bahar Hosseinzadeh, Ali Mohammad Radmanesh, Fatemeh Radmanesh, Sharareh Mansour Abadi and Hossein Fallah.

‘Mahakan’ recently grabbed a nomination at the Short Drama competition section of the 14th edition of the Short to the Point (STTP) film festival in Romania.

‘Mahakan’ is also the recipient of the best feature film director award from the 11th edition of the Iranian Short Film Association (ISFA) Awards.  

The Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF), also known as Festival of the Dhow Countries, is an annual film festival held in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

It has been described as the largest multi disciplinary arts and cultural event in East Africa, aiming to promote “film and other cultural industries as catalyst for the regional social and economic growth.” 

The 2022 edition of the ZIFF is scheduled for June 16-26.
